Laboratory

Diesel engine exhaust contains particulate matter (PM), which can affect human health by causing lung damage and aggravating existing respiratory disease. Because of this, the effective treatment of diesel exhaust gas is both urgent and necessary, and so the regulation of diesel exhaust is becoming increasingly tighter worldwide.

To meet the tightened regulations, vehicle and stationary diesel applications need to have stronger exhaust purification systems. Developments for more effective systems are continuing in this industry.

Ceramics are the most common substrate material found in catalytic converters and catalyzed PM filters, which work to remove harmful exhaust gas pollutants such as PM and NOx. For over 15 years, NGK has produced ceramics substrates for diesel engines, and has established test methods useful in the development of diesel applications.

In 2005, NGK established Diesel Laboratory in Novi, Michigan, which incorporates NGK’s long experience with diesel aftertreatment elements. This Laboratory provides test capabilities for vehicle, engine, emission & equipment manufacturers who need to develop diesel aftertreatment systems.
