Company History

NGK's Detroit Office was established in 1982 as a branch office of NGK-LOCKE, INC. This office provided Technical, Sales, and Logistical support to all of NGK's automotive customers in North America. In 2003 NGK AUTOMOTIVE CERAMICS USA INC. was established as a spin-off company from NGK-LOCKE, INC., and continues to provide and grow support services for the automotive industry in North America.

In 1988 NGK CERAMICS USA, INC. was established in Mooresville, North Carolina. This manufacturing center shipped its first automotive substrate in the first quarter of 1990, and recently shipped it's 100 millionth substrate on December 18th 2002. Current automotive manufacturing capacity is estimated at 9 million substrates annually (actual capacity is size dependenant). This manufacturing center continues to expand to support future emission substrate requirements globally. The newest expansion will support growing Diesel after treatment substrate demands globally.
